Eyelash extensions make it easier to achieve long lashes that make your eyes pop without the help of mascara or a growth serum. New eyelash adhesives allow the extensions to retain its bounce and mimic your natural lashes without falling off or causing it any harm, shares Cherry Lash, a Las Vegas-based team of eyelash extension artists.
Having eyelash extensions can help cut down your makeup prep time. The less eye makeup you apply, the longer your extensions last, after all. If you really have to put on eye makeup, keep these tips in mind to maintain your amazing lashes.
Go Oil-Free on Everything
Oil makes the eyelash extension glue lose its hold on your lashes. Be extra careful when removing your makeup as oil-based removers will wash off your lash extensions along with your eye makeup. It’s best to switch to gentle, oil-free makeup removers and cleansers while you have extensions. This goes for your makeup products, as well.
Forget Waterproof Products
Waterproof makeup, particularly mascara and eyeliners, would require greater effort to remove. This may cause problems, especially since you can’t use oil-based makeup removers or tug on your eyelids. Some products to steer clear of are tubing mascara, pencil eyeliners, and gel eyeliners.
A good rule of thumb is to use easy-to-remove, water-soluble, and powder-based eye makeup. If you really want to apply mascara, consider putting it only on your lower lashes.
Go Easy on the Glitter
The type of eyeshadow you use can also affect the lifespan of your lash extensions. Eyeshadows with sparkly or metallic bases can irritate your eyelid and lash line. Loose glitter shadows that require adhesives are not recommended, either, as the glitter is more prone to getting trapped in your extensions and getting in your eyes.
Pro-tip: Make sure to tap off excess eyeshadow powder from your brushes to avoid fallout on your lashes and brush your extensions with a spoolie after to remove the loose powder.
Take note that eyelash extensions need proper care to make it last longer. A few changes to your regular makeup routine can go a long way towards prolonging the life of your extensions.
